Hello backers,
Happy new year, and welcome to our monthly update.
(As always, do help us in the comments by being encouraging, letting us know what you're most excited about, suggestions, or where we could do better. We'd love to engage in constructive feedback.)
This will be a short update, as December became a short month, taking the time to celebrate the festivities and the new year with family and friends.
Therefore, we will focus our efforts on our next update, picking up the pace in January. The timeline is as previously informed, and we will continue our work, finetuning the game towards the start of production.
Once again, happy new year. We are all looking forward to a fantastic 2022 in the name of board games!

Monthly Update: November

Hello backers,
(This update was meant to be posted last week, but the entire office is hit hard with fever. Sorry for the delay.)
Welcome to our monthly update for November. A few headlines for this update; we are finalizing the development of the action framework, fine-tuning the design, and making minor adjustments to the minis. Let's get to it!
(As always, do help us in the comments by being encouraging, letting us know what you're most excited about, suggestions, or where we could do better. We'd love to engage in constructive feedback.)
Action Framework
In November, we've been focusing on finalizing the action framework. This is where the game becomes SINS Arena. To dive into a bit of a teaser or appetizer, here's a quick overview of the different actions available in the revised rules.
-
Buy, is where you gain more refined and better abilities. When you buy new cards (deck-build), you essentially delude your deck of starter cards with more powerful cards that will help you with your chosen strategy. In SINS Arena, as in SINS, you have seven end-game strategies to choose from. Like the Wrath strategy, destroying weaker cards to let the stronger cards shine through.
-
Attack, is where you get one step closer to victory simply by destroying your opponent. The attack is where your hand of cards, or even better, your hand of combos, will test how well you've made your stand against your opponents.
-
Move, is a new skirmish action, adding the arena in SINS Arena. While a move won't make you obtain any benefits by itself, it will quite literally move you into a better position. With every move, you are either one step closer to combat or one step further away from getting annihilated.
-
Token, will allow you to upgrade your character by upgrading your offense or defense. Various tokens (one for each sin with a unique effect) can be obtained and placed on your character for later use, thereby storing abilities for future rounds.
-
Influence, will allow you to gain influence to unlock powerful effects. In SINS Arena, influence will enable you to play powerful abilities activated by card effects. While SINS had a balance in all effects being relatively equal, SINS Arena introduces lesser and greater effects that are balanced based on a low or high influence cost. Having the influence to pay for powerful effects can be a strong strategy.
We'll revisit these actions, once we have more details of the final cards.
Design Refinement
One thing that I find the hardest, being a designer/publisher, is the refinement phase of the project. I could continue this phase forever, daily fine-tuning the useability of the cards, improving upon the iconography, and going over the text again and again. This is, unfortunately, my greatest strength and my greatest weakness. I am battling my own expectations while anticipating our backer's expectations.
Nevertheless, this is the process that we are spending our time on these days, finding the most optimal way to convey the game's framework, the rules, and the narrative in an intuitive, thematic and functional way.
Minitures
As we move closer to the production date, we are working on improving and optimizing the minis for production, ensuring that nothing breaks while being transported across the ocean. This is a bit of a back and forth with our sculptor artists. As we go into production, we will revisit this phase when the first white samples are made.

Monthly Update: October
– Tue, Nov 09, 2021 at 05:35:16 PM
Hello Backers,
Welcome to another monthly update.
This month, we'll talk about our current development and a look at the development timeline.
Adventures...
Our primary focus during October was on the solo/coop adventures featured in the Celestial Energies expansion box. Through extensive playtesting, we've finetuned the narrative framework amongst all five stories. Each adventure consists of three chapters, where, at the end of each chapter, players must solve a challenge to progress the story. Our development focus is to create a framework that gives a tangible experience from the narrative experience and the feeling of cooperation without too much alpha play. After players progress, they will venture down a story that will branch out into eight different outcomes based on their results. This gives each story endless replayability.
It's been so much fun playtesting these details, but also being able to playtest in person with our entire team, after almost a year apart, because of COVID. We can't wait to hear your feedback on these five stories and what you think of the cooperative twist.
"Arena" Subtitle...
Since the introduction of asymmetrical characters and movement, we wanted to emphasize these significant changes to the rulebook, so we've added a subtitle to the 2nd edition of the game. SINS 2nd edition is now SINS ARENA. The game is still compatible with the previous edition, using the free upgrade pack.
We mainly wanted to make a clear difference between the first and the second edition of the game and ensure a better retail opportunity, making the game more relatable by conveying the nature of the game in the name, emphasizing the arena battle gameplay.
Together with Darryl, we've created two new covers featurering the new logo. Kickstarter backers will also get the exclusive box-sleeves previously posted and featured on the campaign.
Development Timeline...
We are currently looking at production starting at the end of February, giving us three months to wrap up development on the stories and the asymmetrical characters, which we'll talk more about in our next update. This puts us three months behind the original schedule. We hope that the added development time will make for a much better game and that you can keep yourself occupied with other games until then. Thanks for your patience and support!
